Landscape in Soft Pastel
with Laura Milkins
A great class for nature lovers! In this class you will learn different techniques and approaches for making beautiful pastel landscape painting. Pastel is the perfect medium to create a vibrant, colorful landscape image. Step-by-step I’ll walk you through pastel techniques and approaches. The goal is to capture both the feeling, form and colors found in nature. We’ll cover the basics of working with pastels, color theory, and a bit of art history. Each week we’ll work on a different image. We’ll start by looking at inspiring images from art history that demonstrate the techniques. Then I’ll demonstrate that week’s techniques and then you’ll try them out. This class is great for beginners/intermediate, but I'll work with more advanced students to help you hone your skills.

Next Steps in Oil Painting
with Jacqueline Chanda
If you are interested in taking your oil painting skills to the next level, this class is for you. This class builds on foundational knowledge of oil painting and will cover advanced color theory, composition, and brushwork using complex subjects, landscapes, still life arrangements, and the human form.
Advanced color theory will deal with creating sophisticated palettes using different color schemes like split complementary, analogous colors and using color temperature to create form. Composition refers to the sophisticated arrangement of visual elements—like line, shape, color, value, and space—within a painting as it related to the principles of design, like balance, emphasis, rhythm, unity and contrast. Write It. Sketch It. Paint It.
with Gary Nusinow
When we write, we visualize our stories whether we know it or not. Likewise, our drawings and paintings can bring to mind words and phrases that in their own way illuminate our art. In this course, we’ll first compose a story, poem, or verse. Then we’ll sketch what the words bring to mind, and finally, develop a painting that captures the spirit of our written piece. The visual interpretation could be abstract, figurative, or a fusion of the two.
