Workshop! Paint Your HeArt Open! (September)
with Desiree Maultsby
A monthly process painting session, open to all — no experience, no agenda, no product to produce. Each session is a 3-hour held space where participants paint freely, guided by the principle that the creative process matters more than the outcome. Participants leave feeling more connected to themselves, their body, and a community of people who showed up for the same thing.

Workshop! Expressive Abstract Art & Creative Writing
with Albert Kogel
Create a unique image using specific abstract drawing techniques. Following the abstract art creation, follow a series of creating writing activities that will serve to explore the creative process, merging creativity with awareness. The session will complete with art showcasing and an open mic.

Remember Me/Recuérdame: Mini-Ofrenda Lecture and Workshop Series (Workshop 1)

A collaboration between The Drawing Studio, Raices Taller Gallery, and Roots & Roads Community Hospice, this series will commence with a lecture with renowned ofrenda-builders Antonio C. Estrada and Gloria J. Valenzuela, followed by 3 sessions of building mini-ofrendas taught by guest teaching artists.
An ofrenda is an altar created to honor and remember deceased loved ones, featuring elements that reflect their lives, preferences, and relationships with their living relatives.
The series will commence on September 13th with a lecture by renowned ofrenda-builders Antonio C. Estrada and Gloria J. Valenzuela, local artisans who have spent more than 3 decades creating and telling the stories behind altars/ofrendas. Utilizing their experience creating large- and small-scale Día De Los Muertos Altares, Tony and Gloria will talk about elements, symbols, and objects that go into the design and creation of an altar, followed by an opportunity to build your own mini-ofrenda.
Ofrenda series workshops can be taken individually or attend them all!

Workshop! Bilingual Storytime with Aprender y Jugar (September)
Ages: 0 - 19
Aprender y Jugar is a community focused effort to explore the Spanish language, then expand its reach, by exposing folks through the arts - visual, music and story. This class invites young artists and their guardians to get familiar with Spanish vocabulary by listening and repeating words from a story.
