ZOOM: Paint. Write. Return.
with Desiree Maultsby
A live 4-week online series that pairs process painting with freewriting in a held, intimate circle — the brush opens the door, and the pen walks through it. Each 3-hour session builds on the last, deepening participants' relationship with their own creative intelligence across the arc of a month. Participants leave each session with something they made, something they wrote, and a growing trust in what arises when they stop trying to get it right.
Materials not provided. Please bring the following:
• A quiet and semi-private space with room to move
• Paint — any kind available at home (acrylic, watercolor, tempera, finger paint)
• Brushes — or fingers, a sponge, a fork, a cotton ball
• Paper or surface — larger is better; cardboard or poster board works well
• Water container and something to wipe brushes on
• A journal or notebook and a pen private or semi-private space with room to move
Optional: • Markers, crayons, oil pastels, collage materials

Write It. Sketch It. Paint It.
with Gary Nusinow
When we write, we visualize our stories whether we know it or not. Likewise, our drawings and paintings can bring to mind words and phrases that in their own way illuminate our art. In this course, we’ll first compose a story, poem, or verse. Then we’ll sketch what the words bring to mind, and finally, develop a painting that captures the spirit of our written piece. The visual interpretation could be abstract, figurative, or a fusion of the two.
