ZOOM: Acrylic Painting and Women Landscape Painters

Drawing the Figure and Portrait in Pastel

Many of us spend years drawing the figure using monotone mediums such as pencil or charcoal. In this class I will provide guidance in using pastels to add energy and excitement to the process of drawing the human figure.
Materials are not provided. Please bring the following:

Relief Printing with Watercolors

This class will focus on how to create relief prints and then add color by using watercolor. This class is for beginners to advanced. Please bring in sketchbooks and drawings, and other ideas you may want to print. There will be demos on the printing method and also on watercolors. There will also be an Art History component; Artists such as : Georgio Morandi, Rembrandt, Durer, Mary Azarian and others will be touched on. We will have critiques too.

Semi-moist watercolors (can include black)

Dyeing, Printing, and Stitching: A Mixed Media Journey

Dive into mixed media textile art and learn the traditional Japanese art of Shibori resist dyeing. We will learn several fold and clamp techniques to create intricate patterns on fabric in the dye vat. Then we’ll add a hand-printed image with linoleum or wood block printing. Finally, we’ll practice stitching to add a layer of mark-making, color and texture. You can make a wearable item, a fabric collage to flow freely on or oa the wall, or to stretch over a frame.

Figure Drawing Studio (9/21)

Each stand-alone session is for independent study, with no instruction, for ages 18+. Bring your own supplies. There are easels, chairs, horses and stools available for you to borrow.
Please arrive to Figure Drawing Studio 10-15 minutes early to get set up. Doors close promptly at 9 AM. If you arrive after the doors close, please wait until the first break when the doors open again.
The last Monday of every month features a clothed model.

Composition I
with Ryan Hill
Composition 1 introduces the basics of visual design elements (line, shape, texture, and space) and principles (balance, harmony, contrast). Students focus on developing their composition skills through drawing exercises, personal projects, class feedback, along with expansive examples from art and design history.

Break from Normal: Non-Standard Techniques for Drawing the Figure

These classes will explore non-standard techniques that can shift one's perception and loosen a persistent need to "get it right" when drawing. In the first two sessions we will work from a live model; the third session we will work from selfies taken on our own phones or tablets.
