Intermediate Figure Drawing, Movement and Drama

In this 6 - week class, we will learn to use location and shape of the ribcage and pelvis to immediately begin to capture movement and drama with the energy that is expressed in the first three minutes of a pose.
We will explore the Anatomical elements that comprise the skeleton and muscular systems to understand distribution of weight, directions of movement and tensions in each pose. There will be printed handouts from three separate Anatomy books, for additional assistance to take home.
Materials not provided. Please bring the following:
18"x24" 80lbs drawing/sketch pad
9”x12” 64lbs charcoal pad
Newsprint pad
kneaded eraser
plastic eraser
pencil sharpener
soft vine charcoal
graphite pencil for sketching 2B or No. 21
white & 3 black charcoal pencil 2B, 4B and 6B
Saturday Evening Figure Drawing Salon
Join us on the first Saturday of every month for an evening of Figure Drawing with a live model! Starting in September, in our new studio, experience our figure drawing community while receiving a small demonstration and light direction from one of our amazing Teaching Artists. Snacks and beverages provided!
Please bring your own supplies. Accepted mediums include: graphite, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, acrylics, and clay!

Long Pose Figure Drawing Studio (10/4)

Sunday afternoon live figure drawing with one (long) pose. Each one-day session is for independent study, with no instruction, for ages 18+. You are welcome to paint or draw using whichever medium you prefer. Bring your own supplies. There are easels, chairs, horses and stools available for you to borrow.
Please arrive to Figure Drawing Studio 10-15 minutes early to get set up. Doors close promptly at 1 PM. If you arrive after the doors close, please wait until the first break when the doors open again.
Break from Normal: Non-Standard Techniques for Drawing the Figure

No class on 10/12.
These classes will explore non-standard techniques that can shift one's perception and loosen a persistent need to "get it right" when drawing. In the first two sessions we will work from a live model; the third session we will work from selfies taken on our own phones or tablets.
Materials are not provided. Please bring the following supplies:
Pastel or charcoal sticks
Sketch pad, 80 lb paper, preferably 14"x17" (no smaller than 11"x14")

Portraits with a Live Model

Learn about the principles of human proportions, blending techniques, and measuring tips. With instruction, learn how to discard your clip art files to more accurately depict the face. Each class includes thorough lecture before drawing for the remainder of class. Students will practice drawing a bust first, then drawing practice from live model.
