Try It! Intermediate Figure Drawing, Movement and Drama

This stand-alone class features a live model and will cover how to immediately begin to capture movement and drama with the energy that is expressed in the first three minutes of a pose.
We will explore the anatomical elements that comprise the skeleton and muscular systems to understand distribution of weight, directions of movement and tensions in each pose.

Try It! Tiny Treasures in Acrylics

Art can come in all shapes and sizes, but there's something special about tiny treasures. In this class, students will explore painting on small canvases with acrylic paints. Students will learn basic techniques for working with acrylic on canvas and how to choose subjects that work well for small formats. At the end of class, students can take their tiny treasure home with them or can donate it for our annual Tiny Treasures Holiday Art Sale, which benefits The Drawing Studio's programs.

Workshop! Bilingual Storytime with Aprender y Jugar (September)

Ages: 0 - 19
Aprender y Jugar is a community focused effort to explore the Spanish language, then expand its reach, by exposing folks through the arts - visual, music and story. This class invites young artists and their guardians to get familiar with Spanish vocabulary by listening and repeating words from a story.

Color Matters: Learning How to Use Color to Your Advantage

No matter if you are interested in pastel, oils or acrylics or even colored pencils, color matters. Understanding how to make colors by mixing, understanding the harmony of colors and how color is used is critical to every artist. We will work with the color wheel, creating hues, values and harmonious combinations to explore how color can create great artwork.

The Anatomy of the Face

We will learn symmetry and proportions of the face and head including light, shadows, and shading from life sized plaster casts.

Interested in learning some basic stich techniques? This class is for you! Basic stitching is not only a beautiful art practice but a basic skill and now is your chance to learn.

Drawing Fundamentals I (Sep., Sun.)

In Drawing Fundamentals 1 (DF1), students learn four foundational drawing skills: shape/edge, measurement, light (value) and space (perspective). You will begin to combine these skills into drawings that will surprise you by their accomplishment and banish any fears regarding your ability to observe and draw.
Materials: Materials are not included; please bring the following supply list: · Graphite pencils: HB, 2B, 6B · Vine charcoal, soft · Kneaded eraser · Factis eraser, pen style · White sketch paper pad, approx. 14 x 17" (White drawing pad ok) · Small sketchbook, approx. 6 x 8" (Whatever you may already have is fine) Optional: · White plastic eraser · Gum eraser · Blending stumps or tortillions - Newsprint, approx 16 x 20. This class is for adults. Ready-made kits are available at a discount from Posner's Art Store (944 E. University Blvd). Posner's is offering the kits for $70 (retail $110). Long Pose Figure Drawing Studio (9/20)
with Patrick O'Dell
Sunday afternoon live figure drawing with one (long) pose. Each one-day session is for independent study, with no instruction, for ages 18+. You are welcome to paint or draw using whichever medium you prefer. Bring your own supplies. There are easels, chairs, horses and stools available for you to borrow.
Please arrive to Figure Drawing Studio 10-15 minutes early to get set up. Doors close promptly at 1 PM. If you arrive after the doors close, please wait until the first break when the doors open again.
