- #1 darning needle or needle with large eye and dull point (required)

- 1 curved needle can be very helpful

-1 cutting mat or other cutting surface, minimum 8.5x12 inches (required)

-1 bookbinding awl or other sharp tool to push through paper and board (required)

-1 bonefolder (required)

-1 craft knife (required)

-1 ruler: 12, 18, or 24 inches, cork preferred (required)

-1 flat paint brush, foam brush, or glue brush for glue, 1.5 to 2 inches wide (required)

ZOOM: Bird Drawing Basics

Explore the world of your local birds through drawing! We will take a step-by-step approach to drawing our feathered friends through photos and video.We will explore their favorite backyard birds through the fundamentals of drawing. We will apply these drawing skills to accurately capture our bird’s form and behavior. Students will also connect their birding knowledge to their drawings to inform anatomy, feather tracts, and other important identification landmarks. We will be rendering birds with graphite and colored pencils.The drawing skills that we are practicing in class will help you observe your feathered subjects carefully and capture the details for later reference.

Crayons Reimagined: Advanced Techniques for Adult Creatives

Open Print Lab (10/8)

Open Print Lab is designed to be a creative exploration space! Open Print Lab is where our intergenerational printmakers, with an established practice, meet with others, share work, tips, and life's journeys! Enjoy access to 3 manual roll-top etching/relief presses for your self-directed projects! This studio session is not a regular instructional class, so we recommend beginners start with one of our various printmaking classes.

Folks are welcome to bring in anything that they wish, just so long as it goes back home with you! A Studio Monitor is available to answer questions and orient you on materials. Some materials are available at cost, so bring cash for additional supplies.

Beginning Charcoal

In this 4-session class, you will learn various methods and techniques in working with the unique medium of charcoal. We will cover line and mark making, value (shading), blending with “stumps” and other materials, creating texture, and using erasers for special effects, as well as working loose and expressive. Each week, you will create a drawing using different techniques. Get ready to explore, experiment, and have creative fun!

Materials not included. Please bring the following supplies:

Required: Charcoal paper pad – 12x18 white, Vine charcoal (asst soft/hard in varying diameters), 1-2 sticks compressed charcoal, kneaded eraser, pen style eraser (fractis)

Optional: chamois cloth, sandpaper block, charcoal pencil, sharpener

Note: There are convenient charcoal supply kits available which include some of the needed supplies.

Friday Print Lab (10/9)

Membership with The Drawing Studio is required for Print Lab participation. Membership dues allow us to keep cost low.
